Alberta Reviews Federal Budget 2026, Welcomes Recognition of Three Major Projects

Calgary (Rajeev Sharma): Alberta is assessing the potential economic implications of the federal government’s 2026-27 budget, with Finance Minister Jason Nixon welcoming the inclusion of three provincial projects among Canada’s designated major developments, including the Pacific Link pipeline.

In a statement issued on November 5, President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance Jason Nixon said the provincial government was closely examining the newly released federal budget to understand its immediate and long-term consequences for Alberta residents and businesses.

Nixon said Alberta’s efforts over the past year to improve its relationship with the federal government were beginning to show results. He noted that Ottawa’s latest budget appeared to reflect several priorities that Alberta has consistently raised, particularly the need to strengthen Canada’s economy and maintain a competitive energy sector.

The minister also welcomed the recognition of three Alberta-based projects as major projects under the federal government’s plans, specifically highlighting the Pacific Link pipeline.

According to Nixon, Alberta plays a significant role in Canada’s overall economic performance, and strengthening the province’s economy would contribute to broader national prosperity.

He added that the provincial government was prepared to continue engaging with Ottawa on initiatives aimed at supporting long-term economic growth and creating opportunities for Canadians.

The Alberta government will continue reviewing the federal budget over the coming days and weeks before determining its full financial and economic implications for the province.
