Ramayana Box Office: Ranbir Kapoor-Yash Film Sets All-Time Diwali Record, Beats Adipurush In 4 Days

Entertainment Desk: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana has crossed the Rs 200-crore mark at the domestic box office within four days of its release, with its Diwali collection setting a new record for the festival. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Yash as Ravana, the film earned an estimated Rs 56 crore net in India on Sunday, taking its four-day domestic total to Rs 239 crore.

The film had opened to Rs 64.85 crore net on its first day, setting a new record for a pre-Diwali release in India. However, its initial performance had prompted questions about whether it could sustain its momentum during the festival. Sunday’s collection has provided a significant boost, taking it past the previous Diwali-day record held by Salman Khan’s Tiger 3.

Ramayana Box Office Collection Day 4

Ramayana began its theatrical run with Rs 64.85 crore net in India on its opening day. Its collection dipped to Rs 48 crore on Friday before rising to nearly Rs 70 crore on Saturday.

The film’s first three days brought in approximately Rs 183 crore net domestically. It added another Rs 56 crore on Sunday, taking the reported four-day India total to Rs 239 crore.

The Diwali-day performance helped the film overcome concerns about a possible slowdown during the festival. It also gave the big-budget production a strong start to its extended opening weekend.

Ramayana Breaks Tiger 3’s Diwali Box Office Record

With its Sunday collection, Ramayana surpassed the previous record for the highest Diwali-day collection in India. Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 had held the record with Rs 44.50 crore net on Diwali in 2023.

Unlike several films that avoid releasing on the festival day itself to benefit from the post-Diwali period, Ramayana arrived in theatres three days before the occasion. This placed its first Sunday on Diwali, giving it an opportunity to capitalise on the holiday audience.

The film crossed Tiger 3‘s festival-day figure by Sunday evening, according to the reported box-office estimates.

Ramayana Surpasses Adipurush’s Four-Day Collection

Ramayana also moved ahead of Prabhas-starrer Adipurush in terms of its first four days at the Indian box office. The latter had collected Rs 237 crore net during its opening four-day period, while Tiwari’s film reached Rs 239 crore by the end of Sunday.

However, Adipurush had recorded a bigger opening day, earning Rs 86.75 crore in India. Ramayana opened with Rs 64.85 crore, ahead of the opening figures cited for films such as Pathaan and Animal, but below the previous epic adaptation.

The latest milestone puts Ramayana ahead of Adipurush on the four-day domestic comparison, although their opening-day performances remain different.

Hindi Version Leads As Regional Collections Vary

The film’s early box-office performance has been driven largely by its Hindi version. Despite Yash’s presence as Ravana, the Kannada version has reportedly started slowly, collecting around Rs 7.50 crore on its opening day.

The Telugu version has performed comparatively well, while the Tamil and Malayalam versions have contributed smaller amounts to the overall total.

The coming days will show whether Ramayana can maintain its momentum beyond the extended opening weekend and build on its strong Diwali performance.
