Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh directed Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) officials on Monday to intensify dust-mitigation efforts across all municipal roads. Chairing a high-level review meeting at the Public Works Department Rest House in Gurugram, Singh ordered comprehensive deep cleaning alongside regularized water sprinkling routines to control escalating ambient dust pollution. He urged officials to expedite solid waste processing, enforce stricter sanitation standards, and systematically eliminate dust accumulations throughout the city to provide residents with immediate relief from deteriorating air quality.
To revamp municipal sanitation logistics, MCG has allocated a long-term door-to-door garbage collection and transportation contract spanning five years, with a potential two-year extension. Operational responsibilities have been bifurcated into two zones, with M/s Delhi MSW Solutions Limited managing Cluster-1 and M/s BVG India Limited overseeing Cluster-2. The concessionaires will deploy a combined fleet of 875 vehicles, comprising 675 light commercial vehicles, 184 electric rickshaws, and 16 refuse compactors. The initial deployment begins on October 28, introducing an opening batch of 100 dedicated waste collection vehicles to the municipal circuit.
Officials also briefed the minister on legacy waste processing milestones at the Bandhwari landfill site, reporting that 42.95 lakh metric tonnes of garbage have been processed out of the total 58.50 lakh metric tonnes accumulated as of October 20, 2026. Reviewing urban infrastructure and public grievance redressal, the administration confirmed that 3,041 of the 3,815 citizen complaints received under the “24-Hour Challenge” have been resolved. Progress on broader municipal targets reached 29.3 per cent under the “100 Roads Challenge” and 35.8 per cent under the “10 Iconic Roads” redevelopment program. Municipal Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, alongside Additional Municipal Commissioners Ankita Choudhary, Yash Jaluka, Ravinder Yadav, and Chief Engineer Vijay Dhaka, attended the review session.
