Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): The Punjab government has appointed 1992-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Gaurav Yadav as the state’s regular Director General of Police (DGP), according to an official order issued on Friday.
Yadav had been serving as the officiating DGP since July 2022, when he took charge of the state police force. His appointment as the regular police chief formalises his position at the helm of Punjab Police.
As DGP, Yadav oversees the state’s policing operations, including efforts to maintain law and order, combat organised crime, tackle drug trafficking and strengthen public safety.
Punjab has continued to focus on action against gangsters and criminal networks, alongside its campaign against drug abuse and trafficking under the Yudh Nashian Virudh initiative.
The appointment comes as the state police leadership continues to prioritise the disruption of organised criminal groups and drug networks while working to maintain peace and security across Punjab.
The official order confirming Yadav’s appointment marks a formal change in his status after more than four years serving as the state’s officiating police chief.
