Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Monday said a BJP government in Punjab in 2027 would take action against people involved in the drug trade, while calling for the anti-drug campaign to be turned into a mass movement rather than a political programme.
Addressing a gathering during a Nasha Mukt Yatra in Jalalabad, Saini said Punjab’s identity was rooted in the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev and Guru Gobind Singh, as well as its farming and military traditions. He said drug dealers should not be tolerated in the state.
Nayab Singh Saini Calls For Mass Movement Against Drugs
Saini urged BJP workers and social organisations to take the anti-drug campaign to villages and engage with families affected by substance abuse. He said young people struggling with addiction should be supported and helped to return to mainstream society.
The Haryana Chief Minister said the campaign should focus not only on enforcement but also on treatment, employment and restoring dignity to people affected by addiction.
Saini Targets AAP Government Over Drug-Free Punjab Promise
Saini also criticised the Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that it had repeatedly given deadlines for ending the drug menace.
According to Saini, promises were made to tackle the problem within three to six months of coming to power, followed by different deadlines, including August 15, 2024, December 31, 2024 and March 1, 2025.
He questioned why the promised results had not been achieved and said people wanted to see concrete changes on the ground rather than publicity campaigns.
BJP Leader Says Focus Should Be On Major Drug Networks
Saini alleged that enforcement agencies were targeting smaller players while larger drug networks remained untouched. He demanded action against what he described as major drug operators and questioned whether political protection was allowing them to continue operating.
He said Punjab’s youth needed access to de-addiction treatment, employment opportunities and social support rather than slogans and advertising campaigns.
Saini Criticises Accessibility Of Punjab CM’s Residence
Saini also compared public access to his residence in Chandigarh with that of the Punjab Chief Minister. He claimed that thousands of people visit his residence every day with their grievances, while ordinary people cannot similarly access the Punjab Chief Minister’s residence.
He said listening to people’s problems and resolving them was a basic responsibility of any government.
Saini further said that if the BJP forms the government in Punjab in 2027, people involved in spreading drugs would have to stop their activities or leave the state.
