MUMBAI (Rajeev Sharma): A high-speed BMW crash on Mumbai’s Coastal Road claimed three lives and left another person critically injured, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
The accident occurred near Lotus Jetty as the vehicle was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. The crash resulted in four people being taken to Nair Hospital, where three were declared dead and one remained in critical condition.
The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Shanay Gajjal and 17-year-old Dhirya Seth, the Chief Medical Officer at Nair Hospital said. The third victim, a 25-year-old man, has not yet been identified.
A fourth occupant, a 20-year-old unidentified man, is undergoing treatment in the trauma ward and is reported to be in critical condition.
The incident has once again drawn attention to road safety on Mumbai’s high-speed coastal corridor, although details surrounding how the crash occurred are yet to be established.
Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances leading up to the collision, including the speed of the vehicle and the sequence of events immediately before the crash.
