Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday hit back at the Opposition over questions on the state’s law-and-order situation, asking rival parties to examine their own records in power before criticising the present government.
Responding in the Haryana Assembly to a calling-attention motion on law and order moved by INLD MLAs Aditya Devi Lal and Arjun Chautala, Saini said such a sensitive issue should be discussed on the basis of facts rather than political convenience or “misleading propaganda”.
Taking a swipe at Opposition members who came to the House dressed in black, the Chief Minister said, “The people of Haryana are not looking at their black clothes, but at their black deeds.”
CM Saini Targets Congress, INLD Over Their Records
Saini cited several incidents from previous Congress and INLD governments while accusing the Opposition of ignoring its own record on crime and law and order.
Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the Chief Minister alleged that Congress had still not apologised for the violence. He also criticised the party over its association with individuals linked to that period, saying such actions amounted to reopening the wounds of victims.
Saini further cited incidents including the 2001 murder of former MLA Relu Ram Punia and seven members of his family, the 2002 Kandela firing, the Dulina killings and the JBT teachers’ recruitment scam while attacking the INLD’s record.
Targeting the previous Congress government, he referred to incidents including the 2005 violence involving workers of Honda in Gurugram, the Gohana violence, the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing, the Manoj-Babli killings, the Mirchpur violence and the 2012 Apna Ghar case.
The Chief Minister said the Opposition had every right to question the government, but people also had a right to know what happened when those parties were in power.
4,771 Criminals Arrested Under ‘Operation Trackdown’
Highlighting steps taken by the current government, Saini said 4,771 accused and wanted persons were arrested during a special ‘Operation Trackdown’ campaign conducted from August 1 to August 15, 2026.
According to figures presented by the Chief Minister, police recovered 216 weapons, including 135 country-made firearms, 76 pistols, three revolvers and two guns. Police also recovered 287 cartridges and 15 magazines.
He said 241 new history sheets were opened and another 1,406 were updated during the operation.
Saini also referred to ‘Operation Hotspot Domination’, conducted from December 1 to 15, 2025, under which 1,213 cases were registered and 2,200 accused were arrested.
Haryana To Add 250 More Emergency Response Vehicles
The Chief Minister said the state had integrated multiple emergency services with the Dial-112 Emergency Response Support System, including police, fire, medical emergencies, women’s assistance, cybercrime and disaster-management services.
Haryana currently has 630 Toyota Innova Crysta vehicles deployed as emergency response vehicles, he said, adding that the government has approved the purchase of another 250 vehicles to strengthen the system.
Saini also highlighted measures for women’s safety, saying Haryana has established 33 women police stations. He said 24 companies of the Durga Shakti Rapid Action Force and 46 patrolling vehicles have been deployed at sensitive locations.
‘No One Is Above The Law’: Nayab Singh Saini
The Chief Minister said his government was following a zero-tolerance approach towards crime and would further strengthen prevention, investigation and prosecution.
Concluding his response in the Assembly, Saini said the government’s message was clear irrespective of the position or influence of an accused.
“No matter how influential a criminal may be, no one is above the law,” the Chief Minister said.
