Tehran (Rajeev Sharma): Fresh reports from Israeli media have triggered renewed speculation over the health of Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, with claims that he has been hospitalised in a critical condition.
Israeli broadcaster Channel 14, citing sources it described as being inside Iran, reported that Khamenei’s health had deteriorated. An earlier report by The Jerusalem Post, citing IranWire and sources reportedly close to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, had also referred to growing concerns over the Supreme Leader’s condition.
There has been no independent confirmation from Iranian authorities that Khamenei has been admitted to a hospital or that he is in critical condition.
Health rumours intensify amid absence from public
Questions surrounding Khamenei’s health have persisted since he assumed Iran’s top leadership following the reported death of his father in US-Israeli strikes on February 28, 2026.
Since then, his absence from live public appearances has become a major source of speculation. Khamenei has reportedly communicated through written statements rather than appearing publicly, prompting conflicting claims about both his health and whereabouts.
Some foreign reports have alleged that he suffered serious injuries during the initial strikes and subsequently remained in hiding for security reasons. These claims have not been independently verified.
Iranian officials maintain he remains in charge
Tehran has previously sought to counter reports about the severity of Khamenei’s injuries.
Iranian health officials had described his initial injuries as superficial, while senior government figures have maintained that he remains capable of providing strategic direction and issuing instructions.
At the same time, President Masoud Pezeshkian has acknowledged that direct communication with the Supreme Leader has become difficult, a comment that has added to questions over Khamenei’s current condition.
Conflicting reports over his whereabouts
Speculation has also extended to Khamenei’s location.
Saudi broadcaster Al-Hadath reported in July, citing an Israeli security source, that the Supreme Leader was no longer in Iran. The claim has not been independently verified.
US President Donald Trump has also previously made claims about the Iranian leadership’s condition during the conflict, including an assertion that Khamenei was severely incapacitated.
Iranian officials have rejected or played down such accounts.
Critical condition claim remains unverified
The latest reports of a hospital admission therefore remain unconfirmed. No official Iranian statement has been issued verifying that Khamenei was taken to hospital or providing details about his present health.
The uncertainty comes at a particularly sensitive time for Iran, with the country facing continuing military and diplomatic pressure from Israel and the United States.
Any confirmed deterioration in the Supreme Leader’s health could have significant consequences for Iran’s political and military decision-making. Until an official or independently verifiable account emerges, however, the latest claims remain allegations reported by Israeli and regional media outlets.
