Greater Noida (Rajeev Sharma): A late-night firefighting operation at an electronics chip manufacturing facility in Greater Noida ended in tragedy after part of the building gave way, killing two fire department personnel and injuring three others.
The incident took place in the Ecotech-3 police station area, where emergency services were dispatched after reports of a fire at the industrial unit. Firefighters entered the premises to control the blaze and carry out rescue operations when a section of the structure suddenly collapsed.
Building Debris Falls on Fire Crew
According to DCP (Central Noida) Shailendra Kumar Singh, a wall and a heavy iron beam crashed down during the operation, trapping members of the fire brigade who were working inside the premises.
The two firefighters who lost their lives have been identified as Tirthpal Singh and Rohit Yadav. Both were on duty and actively involved in extinguishing the fire when the accident occurred.
Three other personnel from the Fire Service sustained injuries in the collapse and were immediately shifted for medical treatment.
Rescue Efforts Continue
Emergency teams rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations to pull the trapped personnel from the debris. The fire was eventually brought under control after hours of effort.
Officials have expressed grief over the loss of the two firefighters, describing their deaths as a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by emergency responders while carrying out rescue missions.
Cause of Fire Under Investigation
Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the fire as well as the circumstances that led to the collapse of the wall and iron beam during the operation.
Officials are also expected to examine whether the factory complied with prescribed fire safety and structural safety standards.
The incident has cast a spotlight on workplace safety in industrial establishments and the risks encountered by fire personnel responding to emergencies.
