Shimla (Rajeev Sharma): Himachal Pradesh is expected to witness another spell of intense monsoon activity on Saturday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting widespread rainfall across the state. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts, warning of heavy showers accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in isolated areas.
The weather office has predicted that districts including Mandi, Kangra, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Chamba and Kullu could receive heavy rainfall during the day. Light to moderate showers are also likely to continue in many other parts of the hill state.
Officials have cautioned that prolonged rainfall may increase the possibility of landslides, rockfalls, flash floods and overflowing rivers and streams, particularly in vulnerable locations. Low-lying areas could also witness waterlogging, while road connectivity in hilly regions may be affected due to adverse weather conditions.
In view of the forecast, residents and tourists have been advised to stay away from rivers, streams and other water bodies, as water levels may rise rapidly. The administration has also urged people to avoid non-essential travel, especially in landslide-prone areas, until weather conditions improve.
Motorists travelling through the state have been asked to exercise extra caution, as slippery roads, poor visibility and falling debris could pose serious risks. Authorities have recommended checking weather updates and road conditions before undertaking journeys.
The state government has directed district administrations and disaster management agencies to remain on alert and ensure prompt response in case of any rain-related emergencies. Officials have also appealed to the public to rely only on official weather advisories, avoid rumours and follow safety instructions issued by local authorities during the active monsoon spell.
