New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): Prime Minister Narendra Modi held his first telephone conversation on Friday with newly elected British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, congratulating him on assuming office and agreeing to advance the India-United Kingdom Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi extended his best wishes to Burnham for a successful tenure and reaffirmed India’s commitment to elevating bilateral ties. Both leaders underscored the importance of maintaining momentum in one of India’s most significant international partnerships and agreed to remain in regular contact.
During the discussion, the two heads of government focused on expanding cooperation across critical sectors including technology, innovation, defence, security, clean energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges in alignment with the India-UK Vision 2035 roadmap. A major highlight of the bilateral dialogue was the recently operationalized India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. Welcoming the key milestone, both leaders pledged to fully leverage the trade and investment framework to stimulate economic growth and unlock fresh opportunities in both nations, while also exchanging perspectives on regional and global developments of mutual interest.
