Nahan (Rajeev Sharma): With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting intense rainfall across parts of Himachal Pradesh, the district administration has announced the closure of all educational institutions in the Nahan subdivision of Sirmaur district on Wednesday as a precautionary measure.
The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has placed Sirmaur under an Orange Alert, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and the possibility of flash floods and landslides. Officials said the weather conditions could pose risks to public safety and disrupt transportation.
Acting on the forecast, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rajiv Sankhyan issued an order directing all government and private schools, colleges, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), and Anganwadi centres in the subdivision to remain closed for the day.
The administration said the decision was taken after reviewing weather predictions, road conditions, and the likelihood of travel disruptions caused by continuous rainfall. The move is aimed at ensuring the safety of students, teachers, and staff.
Authorities have clarified that the closure will not affect examinations already scheduled for Wednesday. Institutions conducting exams have been instructed to proceed as planned while making necessary arrangements for the safety of candidates.
The district administration has also instructed the heads of all educational institutions to strictly implement the order and urged residents to exercise caution during the ongoing spell of adverse weather. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in areas vulnerable to landslides, waterlogging, and flash floods, until conditions improve.
