Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh/Naval Kishore): Commuters in Chandigarh and Mohali are likely to face traffic disruptions on Wednesday as the Waris Punjab De rally is scheduled to move from Gurdwara Amb Sahib to the Punjab Governor’s House. In view of the procession, the Chandigarh Traffic Police has announced a special traffic management plan and appealed to the public to avoid affected routes during peak hours.
The advisory states that traffic regulations will come into effect from 9:30 a.m., with diversions and restrictions imposed along several major roads to facilitate the movement of the rally and maintain law and order.
Among the key stretches affected is the route from the UT-Mohali border near Burail Jail to the Sector 50/51 junction, continuing towards Gaushala Chowk via Sarovar Path. Traffic movement will also remain regulated near the Sector 44/45 traffic signal.
Another major corridor expected to witness diversions is Vikas Marg, particularly between ISBT Sector 43 Chowk and Gaushala Chowk, extending further towards the Sector 45-46/49-50 intersection. Motorists travelling through the Sector 43/44 and Sector 45/46 light points have been advised to expect delays and use alternate roads wherever possible.
The traffic police has also directed interstate buses heading to ISBT Sector 43 to follow alternative routes to reduce congestion in the affected areas and ensure smoother movement of vehicles.
Residents travelling between Chandigarh and Mohali have been urged to plan their journeys accordingly and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed along the rally route. Authorities have further advised commuters to follow official updates issued through the Chandigarh Traffic Police’s social media platforms for real-time information on road closures, diversions, and traffic conditions.
