Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjabi singer Resham Singh Anmol has voiced concerns over the quality of fuel available at petrol stations after claiming that his newly purchased Defender SUV developed a major fault shortly after its first scheduled service. According to the singer, the vehicle’s fuel pump malfunctioned, and he was informed at the service centre that the issue was linked to fuel quality.
In a video shared on social media, Anmol said the warning signs appeared while he was driving, after which he contacted the company’s service team. Following an inspection, he claimed that technicians informed him the fuel pump had failed and would need to be replaced.
The singer alleged that he was told poor fuel quality was the likely reason behind the malfunction. He said the experience prompted him to stop using regular petrol and instead look for premium fuel options.
Anmol further claimed that despite visiting several fuel stations, he was unable to find premium petrol variants such as XP95 or XP100. According to him, attendants at multiple outlets informed him that these fuels were not available.
Appealing to the government, the Punjabi singer urged authorities to issue a list of fuel stations that stock premium-grade petrol. He said such information would help motorists who wish to avoid confusion while refuelling.
“This is not just my issue. I was told that many vehicle owners have faced similar problems. If premium fuel is recommended, people should know exactly where it is available,” he said in his video message.
The issue comes against the backdrop of the nationwide implementation of E20 petrol, which contains 20 per cent ethanol. From April 1, oil marketing companies began supplying E20 fuel across the country as part of the Centre’s ethanol blending programme aimed at reducing crude oil imports and promoting cleaner fuels.
While Anmol has linked his vehicle’s fault to the fuel being used, there has been no independent confirmation from the vehicle manufacturer or the concerned oil companies establishing that E20 petrol caused the reported malfunction.
His remarks have nevertheless sparked a fresh discussion on social media regarding fuel compatibility, the availability of premium petrol, and the need for greater public awareness as India expands the use of ethanol-blended fuels.
