Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s Sacrifice Continues to Inspire Truth, Courage and Humanity: Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini

Panchkula (Balwinder Singh): Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday paid tribute to the fifth Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, on his 420th martyrdom day, describing his sacrifice as an eternal symbol of truth, faith, humanity and spiritual strength.

Addressing a state-level function organized in Panchkula under the Haryana Government’s Sant Mahapurush Samman Evam Vichar Prasar Yojana, the Chief Minister said Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s life and martyrdom continue to inspire people to stand firmly against injustice, oppression and falsehood.

The event, attended by saints, religious leaders and dignitaries from Haryana and Punjab, also featured the screening of a documentary on Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s life. The Chief Minister participated in Chhabeel Seva during the programme.

Saini said India’s history is enriched by the sacrifices and spiritual contributions of saints and gurus who protected religion, culture and humanity during times of crisis. He described Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom as one of the finest examples of this tradition.

Highlighting the Guru’s contribution to social harmony, the Chief Minister said Guru Arjan Dev Ji established Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar with four entrances, symbolizing openness and equality for all communities irrespective of caste, religion or social status. He noted that the Guru promoted the ideals of social unity and universal brotherhood centuries before they became widely recognized.

The Chief Minister also recalled Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s role in compiling the teachings of saints including Kabir, Namdev, Baba Farid and Ravidas in Sri Guru Granth Sahib, creating a spiritual text that continues to guide humanity and celebrate India’s diversity.

Calling the martyrdom day an occasion for both tribute and introspection, Saini said Guru Arjan Dev Ji endured immense suffering for defending truth and faith. He referred to historical accounts of the Guru’s persecution during the Mughal era and said his unwavering commitment to principles remains a source of inspiration for generations.

“Despite facing severe hardships and torture, Guru Arjan Dev Ji never compromised on his beliefs. His sacrifice teaches us to uphold truth, justice and culture under all circumstances,” the Chief Minister said.

Linking the Guru’s teachings with the vision of a developed India, Saini said the values of service, compassion, truth and spiritual discipline remain relevant in modern nation-building efforts. He added that these principles can serve as a guiding force as India progresses towards becoming a developed nation.

The Chief Minister said the Haryana Government is committed to preserving and promoting Sikh history and heritage among younger generations. He highlighted several initiatives taken by the state government, including the inclusion of Sikh history in Class VIII textbooks and lessons on the contributions of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur.

He also mentioned special train services to Hazur Sahib in Nanded and measures taken for families affected by the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, including provisions for government jobs to eligible family members.

Saini further stated that nearly nine acres of land associated with the historic Gurdwara Chilla Sahib in Sirsa had been transferred free of cost to the shrine. He also highlighted the naming of a medical college in Yamunanagar and other public institutions after Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji as a mark of respect for Sikh heritage.

Urging young people to learn from the lives and sacrifices of Sikh Gurus, the Chief Minister said a strong understanding of history and cultural heritage helps build confidence and encourages greater participation in nation-building.

He called upon citizens to follow Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s teachings of truth, service, compassion and remembrance of God, saying these values are essential for strengthening peace, harmony and social unity in society.
