NEET Re-Exam Candidate Dies by Suicide in Ahmedabad, Investigation Underway

Ahmedabad (Gurpreet Singh): A 17-year-old NEET aspirant, who was scheduled to appear for the upcoming NEET (UG) re-examination, allegedly died by suicide after jumping from the sixth floor of his residential building in Ahmedabad during the early hours of Thursday, police said.

According to Sabarmati Police Inspector Y.R. Vaghela, the incident occurred around 2:55 am at the Aristo Anandam residential complex in the Tragad area of the city. The teenager reportedly jumped from the balcony of his family’s sixth-floor apartment in Block B of the society.

The society’s security guard noticed the boy lying in the common area and immediately alerted residents. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Police said no suicide note was recovered from the scene. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The deceased was preparing for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) re-examination scheduled for June 21. Officials said he had performed well in previous examinations.

The teenager lived in Ahmedabad with his mother and younger brother. His father, an advocate, resides in Surat following the separation of the couple, police added.

Family members have not indicated that the boy was under any apparent mental stress, investigators said. Authorities are continuing to probe the case and are speaking with family members and others close to the deceased.

The NEET-UG re-examination is set to be conducted on June 21 after the National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled the earlier examination held on May 3 amid allegations of a paper leak.
