Amritsar (Gurpreet Singh): An Amritsar court on Wednesday adjourned the bail hearing for Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia to June 11, in a case involving the alleged storming of the Majitha police station. While Majithia’s legal fate remains pending for another day, the court provided major relief to his legal advisor, Advocate Bikramjit Singh Bath, by completely clearing him of the charges.
The turning point for the legal counsel came when the Special Investigation Team (SIT) submitted its findings to the court. The SIT explicitly clarified that Bath had visited the police station strictly in his professional capacity as a legal advisor and, therefore, should not be treated as a co-accused in the criminal matter. Accepting the SIT’s formal submission, the court declared Bath innocent, prompting the immediate withdrawal of his anticipatory bail application.
The high-profile case stems from an incident where Majithia, accompanied by a group of supporters, allegedly entered the Majitha police station to demand and secure the release of a detained Akali Dal party worker, Jobanpreet Singh. Following the confrontation, local police registered a First Information Report (FIR) naming Majithia, Bath, and several other identified and unidentified individuals, triggering the ongoing legal proceedings.
