Washington (Rajeev Sharma): A scheduled television interview featuring US President Donald Trump ended abruptly after an intense exchange with NBC’s Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker over allegations surrounding California’s election process.
The discussion took a confrontational turn when Trump criticised the state’s ballot-counting timeline, arguing that the prolonged process was indicative of election-related misconduct. He questioned why results were still being finalised days after voting, suggesting the delays pointed to systemic issues.

Welker responded by explaining that California follows an extended ballot-counting procedure under its election laws and repeatedly asked the president whether he could provide evidence to support his allegations. Trump maintained that the circumstances themselves raised concerns but did not present specific proof during the interview.
As the conversation progressed, Trump accused sections of the American media of ignoring what he described as election irregularities and directed criticism at NBC and other major news organisations. Welker rejected the accusations and attempted to continue the discussion on factual grounds.
The interview reached a breaking point when Trump declared that he had “had enough” of the exchange. He ended the conversation before its scheduled conclusion, removed his microphone and left the set despite further attempts by the anchor to continue the interview.
During his departure, the president remarked that he had already devoted considerable time to the interaction, referring to the conditions under which the interview had taken place and expressing dissatisfaction with the media’s coverage.
The incident is the latest in a series of public confrontations between Trump and journalists. In recent weeks, he has frequently criticised mainstream news outlets, accusing them of political bias and unfair reporting while defending his positions on election integrity and other issues.
The tense on-air exchange has sparked widespread debate, with supporters describing Trump’s actions as a stand against hostile questioning, while critics argued that the interview ended without addressing key questions surrounding his election-related claims.
