New Delhi (Gurpreet Singh): The National Testing Agency has announced a historic measure to secure the upcoming NEET-UG 2026 re-examination by partnering with the Indian Air Force to transport question papers. Scheduled for June 21, the re-test follows the cancellation of the original May 3 examination, which was compromised by a widespread question paper leak.
NTA Director General Abhishek Singh unveiled the military-backed logistics strategy during a high-level virtual review meeting chaired by Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. This unprecedented deployment marks the first time that military aircraft will be utilized to handle the distribution of question papers for a national-level academic entrance test. More than 2.2 million medical aspirants across the country are expected to take the re-examination, raising the stakes for the administration to execute a flawless and secure operation.
Security frameworks are being tightened dramatically at all designated examination venues nationwide. In Telangana, Director General of Police Mahesh Bhagwat ordered state law enforcement and district administrators to establish tight vigilance circles before and during the exam. Furthermore, cyber units have been instructed to conduct round-the-clock monitoring of social media platforms to neutralize fake news, paper leak rumors, or misinformation campaigns designed to mislead candidates.
The security overhaul is a direct response to structural vulnerabilities that have plagued the medical entrance test in recent years. The original leak from the May exam is currently under active criminal investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The persistent controversies surrounding NEET security previously forced the Supreme Court to step in, issuing mandatory guidelines to strengthen exam safeguards. By introducing military precision to the logistical chain, the NTA aims to rebuild credibility among students and guarantee a fair testing environment.
