Calgary Police Charge Two Men in Extortion Investigation Involving South Asian Business Community

Calgary ( Rajeev Sharma) : Calgary Police ( CPS) have charged 30 year-old Sandeep Singh and 39-year-old Amandeep Mallhi in connection with an ongoing extortion investigation involving threats made against members of Calgary’s South Asian business community. According to the Calgary Police Service, both men have been charged with extortion and possession of proceeds of crime following an investigation by the Organized Crime & Offender Management Section.

The investigation began after a northeast Calgary business owner reported receiving threats demanding money and warning of violence if the demands were not met. Police launched an investigation that led to the arrests of the two accused.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing and are encouraging anyone who has received similar threats to come forward.

Police emphasized that extortion is a serious crime that creates fear within communities and assured residents that efforts will continue to identify and hold offenders accountable.

The charges have not been proven in court, and both accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
