The joint tactical operation yielded the recovery of two live, military-grade hand grenades, effectively pre-empting a series of coordinated terrorist strikes planned across the state. Investigators have mapped the dismantled module directly to the notorious international Lakha gang, which has been coordinating subversive activities through a sophisticated network of foreign-based handlers.
Ludhiana Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma stated that the enforcement actions commenced on May 17, 2026, when specialized police units intercepted a targeted assassination plot near the Hardy’s World amusement park, situated within the Ladowal police station jurisdiction. During the initial localized raid, security personnel apprehended two frontline contract shooters, identified as Anuraj, alias Gaurav Masih, and Ankush, both residing in the Phillaur area. Initial searches led to the seizure of three semi-automatic pistols and 11 live cartridges, triggering the registration of First Information Report Number 91 under stringent sections of the Arms Act and Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which penalizes organized crime.

The suspects revealed they were operating under the explicit direction of overseas handlers, including Germany-based masterminds Jorawar Singh and Lakha, alongside Dubai-based operative Sahil Sondhi, alias Chunj. Leveraging these inputs, the local Crime Investigation Agency staff and counter-intelligence teams conducted a synchronized technical audit of the module’s logistical supply routes, tracing the origin of the military-grade explosives directly to handlers operating out of the border-hugging Majha region of Punjab.
The subsequent operational phase culminated in the apprehension of two primary logistics providers embedded within the network’s explosives supply wing. The suspects have been identified as Karandeep Singh, alias Karan, a resident of village Khairuddin Ke under the Jhabal police station in Tarn Taran, and Baljit Singh, alias Sanju, a resident of the Purani Basti locality under the Ramdas police station in Amritsar. Intelligence dossiers indicate that both individuals were systematically integrated into the active terror cell by a Malaysia-based operative, Akashdeep Singh, alias Golden. Karandeep Singh has been identified as a habitual offender who is already facing multiple ongoing trials for attempted murder and cross-border narcotics smuggling under the NDPS Act. Following the dangerous weapons recovery, police have formally added Sections 3, 4, and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 317(2) of the BNS to the active case file, while specialized teams continue running multi-district raids to destroy the module’s auxiliary support networks.
