Gurdaspur (Gurpreet Singh): In a significant breakthrough for public safety, the Gurdaspur police, working in co-ordination with the Counter Intelligence wing of Punjab, have arrested three individuals connected to a recent grenade-throwing incident. Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav confirmed the operation on Sunday, revealing that law enforcement personnel also successfully recovered a second live hand grenade from the possession of the accused.
The investigation stems from an incident on April 27, 2026, when an unexploded hand grenade was discovered near a shop on Geeta Bhawan Road in Gurdaspur. A specialized bomb disposal squad safely defused the device shortly after it was found. Following an intensive investigation, security forces identified and apprehended the three suspects, who have been named as Amarjit Singh of Jalandhar, alongside Karanjit Singh and Satnam Singh, both residents of Amritsar. The second explosive device was subsequently uncovered during a search of Amarjit Singh’s residence.
Preliminary interrogations conducted by the police indicate that the trio was operating under the direct guidance of a foreign-based handler. This overseas contact allegedly supplied the suspects with two hand grenades to execute the localized attack. Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya noted that multiple investigative teams utilized closed-circuit television footage, local intelligence, and advanced technical analysis to identify the suspects, who were spotted riding a motorcycle near the targeted commercial area.
Local authorities originally registered a First Information Report under the Explosive Substances Act at the City Gurdaspur police station immediately following the initial discovery in April. As the investigation deepened and international connections became evident, stringent charges under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act were added to the case. Senior officials emphasized that the investigation remains active as authorities work to uncover the broader network of local support and international handlers, with further arrests and weapon seizures expected in the near future.
