Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): A. Srinivas, the Chief Electoral Officer for Haryana, has announced the commencement of a special summary revision of electoral rolls across the state. This initiative is part of a broader phased campaign by the Election Commission of India currently being implemented across 16 states and three union territories. For this third phase in Haryana, the qualifying date for voter eligibility has been set for July 1, 2026, ensuring that the registry reflects the most current demographic data for upcoming democratic exercises. The preliminary stage of the campaign, which includes intensive training for staff and the printing of necessary materials, is scheduled to take place between June 5 and June 14, 2026.
To facilitate this massive undertaking, the state has deployed a dedicated workforce of 20,629 Booth Level Officers who will conduct comprehensive door-to-door surveys. Starting from June 15 and continuing until July 14, 2026, these officers will verify voter details and collect information to ensure the registry remains transparent and error-free. Political parties have also shown active participation in the process, having already appointed 12,917 Booth Level Agents to monitor and assist with the verification at various polling centres. As of mid-May 2026, Haryana’s total voter count is recorded at over 20.6 million individuals.
The revision process follows a rigorous timeline designed to maintain administrative accuracy. The rationalization and alignment of polling stations are expected to be completed by July 14, 2026, followed by the publication of the draft electoral rolls on July 21, 2026. Once the draft is public, citizens will have a specific window from July 21 to August 20 to file any claims or objections regarding their registration. Election officials will then spend several weeks settling these claims, with the goal of resolving all disputes by September 18. This meticulously planned sequence will culminate in the publication of the final, updated voter list on September 22, 2026.
Chief Electoral Officer Srinivas has issued an appeal to the residents of Haryana to cooperate fully with निर्वाचन officials and Booth Level Officers during their field visits. He emphasized that public participation is vital for the creation of a flawless and transparent electoral roll, which serves as the foundation of a healthy democracy. Furthermore, he urged political organizations to ensure that agents are appointed at every single polling station to bolster the integrity of the revision drive. This collaborative effort between the government and the public is intended to safeguard the voting rights of every eligible citizen in the province.
