Seattle (Rajeev Sharma): Boeing has notified operators of its 737 aircraft about a software issue that could prevent pilots from accessing automated flight guidance during a particular landing situation.
According to a company spokesperson, airlines were informed about the issue last month. Boeing said the communication was intended to reinforce procedures already in place for pilots to safely manage the situation if it occurs.
The aircraft manufacturer said pilots have existing guidance to deal with cases in which automated flight assistance may become unavailable during the specified landing scenario.
Boeing’s engineering teams are now working on a software update designed to provide a permanent fix for the problem.
The company did not indicate that the issue affects every landing or all 737 operations. The notification instead concerns a specific set of circumstances in which automated flight guidance may not be available to the flight crew.
