No Breakthrough in Iran Crisis as Donald Trump Rejects Proposal, Cites Leadership Uncertainty in Tehran

After Iran Truce, Trump Targets Allies, Revives Greenland Debate

Washington (Rajeev Sharma): The diplomatic deadlock over the ongoing conflict involving Iran deepened on Tuesday after Donald Trump voiced strong reservations about Tehran’s latest peace proposal, signalling that negotiations remain far from resolution.

According to officials, Iran’s proposal outlines a staged approach to de-escalation, beginning with a ceasefire and the reopening of maritime routes, including the crucial Strait of Hormuz. Discussions on the country’s nuclear programme, however, have been deferred to a later stage—an approach the United States has firmly opposed.

Trump also claimed that Iran is currently facing internal challenges related to its leadership structure, suggesting that the country is in a period of uncertainty. There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities to these remarks.

The ongoing standoff continues to impact global trade, particularly energy markets, as restrictions on shipping routes have disrupted oil supplies. The Strait of Hormuz remains a focal point of tension, with both sides taking measures that have heightened risks in the region.

Separately, during a formal engagement, Trump referenced King Charles III, stating that there is shared concern among global leaders about preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

With both sides holding firm on their core demands, analysts believe that a resolution may take longer than expected, prolonging uncertainty in the region and beyond.
