Gurpreet Singh :- A powerful explosion rocked the Patel Park area of Abohar late on Tuesday night, triggering panic among residents. The incident occurred near Vij Hall in Lane No. 6, where a sudden blast caused chaos in the surrounding locality and raised initial fears of a major mishap.
Early reports from locals suggested that the explosion might have been caused by stored firecrackers or other inflammable materials inside a nearby shop. Some residents also speculated that a gas cylinder blast could have led to the incident, adding to the confusion in the immediate aftermath.
However, preliminary investigation by the police ruled out the presence of any such hazardous materials at the site. According to officials, the blast is believed to have been caused by the presence of oil near a sugarcane juice machine, along with the bursting of soda bottles kept nearby, which together led to the explosion.
The owner of the house and shop, Deepak, stated that the blast occurred suddenly, followed by a fire, leaving little time to react. He and his brother were standing outside at the time and were knocked down by the impact, while other family members inside the house sustained injuries.
In the incident, three people, including a woman, were injured. The condition of one of the injured woman is reported to be serious, and she has been referred to another hospital for advanced treatment.
Despite the police clarifying the likely cause, several residents continue to express doubts, with some believing that the explosion may have involved other substances. The incident has left the area in a state of fear, and authorities have initiated a detailed probe to ascertain the exact sequence of events.
