PM Modi inaugurates Noida’s Jewar airport: From fog-ready runway to 10-minute check-in, know key features

Rajeev Sharma :- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the first phase of the Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh with CM Yogi Addityanath in attendance. the Prime Minister said the airport would transform connectivity and economic prospects across western Uttar Pradesh.

“Because of this, Noida International Airport, Agra, Mathura, Aligarh, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Etawah, Bulandshahr, Faridabad and this entire region are going to benefit greatly,” PM Modi said.

“This airport is going to bring many new opportunities for the farmers, small and medium sized businesses and the youth of West UP. From here, aircraft will fly around the world, and it will become the symbol of the flight of developed Uttar Pradesh.”

He congratulated the people of the state, especially those in western Uttar Pradesh, calling the project a “magnificent airport”.

The airport got its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation in March 2026. It has been approved for “all-weather operations,” which means it has the necessary systems like landing equipment, navigation tools, runway lights and air traffic control to handle flights even in low visibility, which is common in the Delhi-NCR area.

The airport has one runway, called 10/28, and it has special landing systems (ILS) installed at both ends. This allows planes to land from either side depending on wind direction.

The ILS helps pilots in two ways — it guides the plane left and right to stay aligned with the runway, and also helps control the descent angle for a smooth landing. This means pilots can rely on their instruments instead of visibility outside, which is very important during fog or haze.
