After securing bail on August 16, 1995, he absconded and remained on the run for nearly 31 years, following which a court issued a warrant for his arrest. The joint ATS and Gautam Buddha Nagar Police team tracked him down and arrested him from SAS Nagar (Mohali) in Punjab.
