National Times Bureau :- A wedding celebration turned tragic after a young man was allegedly stabbed to death by his own friends during a function at a marriage palace in Faridkot. The incident has sent shockwaves across the area, raising serious concerns over escalating personal disputes among youngsters.
According to preliminary information, the deceased, identified as Dilpreet Singh, had attended a friend’s wedding ceremony where several acquaintances had gathered. It is learnt that a minor altercation had taken place between Dilpreet and another युवक during the ‘Jaggo’ ceremony a day earlier. Police suspect that the disagreement later escalated into a violent confrontation.
Family members alleged that on the night of the wedding, while Dilpreet was having dinner inside the palace premises, one of the accused approached him and asked him to step outside for a conversation. Moments later, another युवक joined them. It is alleged that one of the accused restrained Dilpreet by holding his arms, while the other repeatedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon.
Grievously injured, Dilpreet reportedly managed to return inside the hall before collapsing. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead shortly after arrival.
The victim’s family claimed that CCTV footage installed at the venue captured the entire sequence of events. The footage allegedly shows one suspect holding the victim while the other carried out the assault. Both accused fled the scene in a vehicle soon after the incident.
Confirming the development, DSP Tarlochan Singh said that initial investigation suggests the attack stemmed from a dispute that began during the pre-wedding function. A case has been registered, and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused. He assured that the suspects would be arrested soon.
The incident has cast a pall over the locality, with residents expressing grief and disbelief that a joyous occasion could end in such a brutal act of violence. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain all aspects of the case.
