Chandigarh, January 13 — Haryana Minister of State for Sports Gaurav Gautam on Tuesday flagged off a special bus service from Palwal to Prayagraj to facilitate devotees wishing to attend the Magh Mela, which is being held in Uttar Pradesh till February 15 on the occasion of Mahashivratri.
Launching the Palwal–Prayagraj special bus from Palwal bus stand, Gautam said the direct bus connectivity would greatly benefit pilgrims by enabling them to visit the Magh Mela and take a holy dip without inconvenience. He noted that several major bathing rituals and religious events are scheduled during the Magh Mela, which will continue till February 15 in Prayagraj.
Describing the Magh Mela as a centuries-old symbol of faith, devotion and social harmony, the minister said the religious congregation is not merely a spiritual event but also a reflection of India’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage. He urged people to visit Prayagraj with their families and take part in the sacred ritual of bathing at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati.
Gautam said the Uttar Pradesh government has made elaborate arrangements in the Magh Mela area, including security, cleanliness, traffic management, healthcare services and accommodation, to ensure a smooth and safe experience for devotees. He added that such religious events play an important role in connecting the younger generation with the country’s cultural roots.
Providing details of the service, the minister said the special bus will operate daily till the conclusion of the Magh Mela. It will depart from Palwal bus stand at 8 am and travel via Mathura, Agra, Etawah, Kanpur and Fatehpur, covering a distance of around 645 kilometres to reach Prayagraj at about 8 pm.
