Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Chandigarh Police has announced robust security and traffic measures ahead of New Year’s Eve celebrations, aiming to ensure safety and smooth management of crowds across the city. SSP Kanwardeep Kaur conducted a review of the preparedness and directed officers to remain vigilant throughout the night.
Under the new plan, ten key roads will be declared ‘No Vehicle Zones’ from 9:30 pm to 2:00 am. These include the front road of Leisure Valley in Sector 10, Sector 11 Inner Market Road, internal roads of Sectors 17 and 22, the road from Aroma Light Point to Sector 22 Dispensary Chowk, and areas surrounding Elante Mall in Industrial Area Phase-1. Residents living in these areas have been advised to carry valid identity documents or proof of residence to avoid inconvenience.
To manage security and maintain order, 1,100 police personnel have been deployed across the city. In addition, 70 special nakas have been set up at strategic locations. A total of 17 DSPs and inspectors will be on active field duty to monitor situations and coordinate enforcement.
Special attention will be given to nightlife areas, with strict checking and monitoring outside bars, clubs, and restaurants. Police officials emphasized that vehicle inspections and preventive checks will be intensified to deter unruly behavior and ensure public safety.
SSP Kanwardeep Kaur appealed to citizens and visitors to celebrate responsibly. “We urge everyone to enjoy the New Year celebrations peacefully and cooperate with police personnel deployed across the city to maintain law and order,” she said.
Authorities have asked people to plan their movement in advance, follow police instructions, and avoid unnecessary travel in restricted areas during the enforcement window. With the heightened security setup, Chandigarh Police aims to provide a safe and organized environment for welcoming the New Year.
