State Receives President’s Award for Excellence in Cleanliness Initiatives
Chandigarh, December 22:Haryana’s Minister for Urban Local Bodies, Revenue, Disaster Management and Relief, Vipul Goyal, on Monday said that the state government is implementing intensive cleanliness campaigns on a cluster basis to ensure comprehensive sanitation arrangements in urban areas. He added that special emphasis is also being laid on the effective implementation of door-to-door garbage collection.
Responding to a question during the third day of the Winter Session of the Haryana Assembly, the minister said that due to the state’s focused cleanliness drives, Haryana has received the President’s Award in the field of sanitation, ranking third at the national level.
Vipul Goyal informed the House that districts including Bhiwani, Sirsa, Sonipat, Panipat and Karnal have been grouped into clusters, where waste collection and sanitation work has been allotted to agencies under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Through these agencies, the daily disposal of around 6,334 metric tonnes of waste generated across 87 municipal committees, 24 municipal councils and 11 municipal corporations in the state is being carried out.
He said that investments worth between ₹200 crore and ₹300 crore are being made under this system, which is being implemented strictly in accordance with the guidelines issued by the central government.
The minister further stated that if any agency fails to carry out sanitation work properly or does not adhere to government directions, strict action is taken against it. Citing an example, he said that based on irregularities detected since January 2023, a fine of ₹3,29,200 has been imposed on an agency by the Siwan Municipal Committee.
