Jalandhar (Gurpreet Singh): A security alert was sounded in parts of Jalandhar on Monday after multiple privately run schools received messages warning of a possible bomb attack, forcing authorities to take urgent precautionary measures. Students were sent home and school buildings were cleared as police teams rushed to assess the situation.
Officials said school administrations contacted law enforcement soon after the threatening emails were received earlier in the day. Acting swiftly, police asked managements to vacate the premises to ensure there was no risk to children or staff. Institutions such as St. Joseph’s Convent School and KMV School were among those affected by the alert.
As word of the early dismissal spread, concerned parents gathered outside school gates to take their children home. Many said they were informed that classes had been called off due to technical or repair-related issues, with no immediate reference to the threat, a move aimed at preventing panic among students.
Confirming the development, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar (North) stated that the warning claimed an explosive device had been planted on school grounds. “All necessary safety protocols were followed. Bomb disposal and search teams examined the premises, and the situation is currently under control,” he said.
Police sources noted that Jalandhar is not the first city in Punjab to witness such incidents, pointing out that similar threats were recently reported in Amritsar and were later identified as hoaxes. Nonetheless, authorities said every such message is being taken seriously.
An investigation has been launched to identify the sender of the emails, while security agencies remain vigilant. Officials have appealed to the public to stay calm and rely on verified information as inquiries continue.
