Trump Bars South Africa From 2026 G20 Summit, Cites ‘Human Rights Concerns’ Over White Minority

Washington DC, November 29, 2025: US President Donald Trump declared that one of the G20 member nations will not be invited to the 2026 G20 Summit, which the United States is set to host in Miami next year. The announcement followed America’s conspicuous absence from the recently concluded G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

In a detailed post on X, Trump accused the South African government of ignoring what he called human rights violations against “Afrikaners and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers.” He alleged that members of the white farming community were facing targeted violence and land seizures. “They are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them,” Trump claimed, while criticising Pretoria’s handling of the issue.

The Johannesburg summit, held last weekend, saw the participation of several world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, the United States decided not to send an official delegation. Trump further claimed that South Africa refused to hand over the G20 presidency to a representative of the US Embassy present at the closing ceremony — a move he said contributed to his decision to bar the country from the 2026 meeting.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called the announcement “regrettable” and emphasised that his government remained committed to maintaining strong ties with Washington. Clarifying the controversy over the G20 gavel ceremony, his office stated that since the US delegation did not attend the summit, the ceremonial handover was completed at the South African Foreign Affairs Department in the presence of an Embassy official.

Trump has made similar allegations in the past regarding violence against South Africa’s white minority, including claims of a “genocide” against white farmers. These assertions have repeatedly been dismissed by the South African government as well as by leaders within the white community.
