Indian Woman Pilgrim from Kapurthala Goes Missing in Pakistan During Guru Nanak Gurpurab Yatra

National Times Bureau :- An Indian woman pilgrim from Kapurthala district has reportedly gone missing in Pakistan after travelling with a group of Sikh devotees for the celebrations of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Purab. According to official sources, the missing woman has been identified as Sarabjit Kaur, a resident of Amainipur village, Post Office Tibba, Kapurthala.

Sarabjit Kaur was part of the group of 1,932 Sikh pilgrims who crossed over to Pakistan through the Attari border on November 4, as per Indian immigration records. After spending ten days visiting various historic Sikh shrines across Pakistan, the jatha began returning to India on Thursday evening. However, when authorities checked the final list, only 1,922 pilgrims returned, and Sarabjit Kaur was not among them.

Before the return of the main group, four members— including Singh Sahib Giani Kuldeep Singh Gurgaj, acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and three women who had emergencies at home—had already come back earlier. In another incident, a pilgrim named Sukhwinder Singh suffered a heart attack and passed away at Gurdwara Sri Rori Sahib, Eminabad. His body was brought back to India by his companion Hardeep Singh ahead of the rest of the group.

When immigration officials from both Attari and Wagah checked the arrival records, they found no entry of Sarabjit Kaur returning to India, raising concerns that she may have stayed back or disappeared while in Pakistan. Officials confirmed that her name does not figure in the Pakistani exit list nor in the Indian arrival register.

Following this development, intelligence agencies from both India and Pakistan have begun background checks to determine whether she had any prior links or intentions that could explain her disappearance. The agencies are also trying to trace her movements within Pakistan to understand how she went missing despite being part of a monitored pilgrimage group.

In a startling revelation, officials found that when Sarabjit Kaur filled out her arrival form at the Pakistan immigration counter on November 4, she left several crucial details blank. She reportedly did not mention her nationality or passport number, raising further questions about her intentions.

Authorities on both sides are currently investigating the matter to establish whether the woman deliberately absconded or if there is another angle behind her disappearance.
