New Delhi, November 13, 2025 — Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and Canada’s Minister for Export Promotion and International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, co-chaired the 7th India-Canada Ministerial Dialogue on Trade and Investment (MDTI) in New Delhi on Thursday. The meeting marked a phase of renewed engagement aimed at invigorating bilateral trade and investment ties and charting a forward-looking cooperation agenda.
In their joint statement titled “Renewing Momentum towards a Stronger Partnership”, both countries reaffirmed the foundational role of trade in promoting mutual economic growth and resilience. They highlighted the strong, value-based foundation of India-Canada relations, rooted in shared democratic traditions, cultural diversity, and evolving economic synergy.
The ministers noted the contributions of the Indian diaspora—about 2.9 million people in Canada—and over 427,000 Indian students studying there, calling them vital bridges for innovation, understanding, and commercial collaboration.
Bilateral trade in goods and services between India and Canada reached approximately USD 18.38 billion in 2023. Both sides welcomed the steady rise in cross-border investments and committed to maintaining a business climate that is open, transparent, and conducive to inclusive growth.
The dialogue covered broad strategic areas including nutritional security, resilient supply chains, healthcare cooperation, and investment facilitation. Discussions also addressed trade policy developments, improving market access, regulatory alignment, and enhancing economic resilience over the longer term.
Concluding the session, both ministers reaffirmed their shared vision of revitalising the India-Canada economic partnership, based on mutual respect, trust, and collaborative spirit. They pledged to convert the dialogue’s outcomes into tangible actions that foster shared prosperity and reflect the dynamism of their bilateral relations.
