Kerala (Rajeev Sharma): A slight depression appeared on the helipad surface at Pramadam Stadium in Pathanamthitta shortly after President Droupadi Murmu’s helicopter landed, prompting a quick response from emergency personnel stationed nearby.
The President had just arrived in the region as part of her official visit when the incident occurred. According to reports from the ground, one section of the tarmac appeared to sink marginally beneath the helicopter, causing a momentary imbalance.
Security and emergency teams, including local police and fire services, acted swiftly to stabilize the aircraft. They manually guided the chopper away from the uneven section, ensuring it remained safely grounded.
Officials confirmed that the aircraft was not damaged and that the President was not at risk at any point. She proceeded with her planned engagements without interruption.
Though the cause of the tarmac cave-in is not yet officially known, authorities are expected to launch an investigation into the condition of the landing area. Engineers are likely to conduct a structural assessment to determine whether the temporary helipad was adequately prepared to accommodate a VVIP flight.
The stadium had been prepared in advance for the high-profile arrival, but the unexpected dip in the surface has raised questions regarding safety protocols and site inspections ahead of such events.
President Murmu is in Kerala to participate in a series of government functions and outreach programs. Her itinerary remains unchanged despite the incident.
Local officials have assured the public that all future landing zones will undergo additional scrutiny to avoid similar occurrences.
