Punjab Cabinet Approves ₹20,000 Per Acre Compensation, Extends Loan Repayment Deadline by Six Months

National Times Bureau:- Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann virtually attended the state cabinet meeting from his room at Fortis Hospital, where he has been admitted since September 5 due to high fever. During the meeting, the cabinet announced several key relief measures for farmers affected by recent floods and heavy rains. The government approved a compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop losses and granted a six-month extension for loan repayments to farmers who have borrowed from banks or cooperative institutions, during which no installments will be required. Financial aid will also be provided to those who suffered losses in poultry farming, livestock, and fishery sectors. Additionally, the cabinet gave its nod to the ‘Jisda Khet, Usdi Ret’ scheme, allowing farmers to utilize sand from their own fields for personal use and economic benefit.
