Haryana to Strengthen Irrigation Network with ₹315 Crore Project for Canal Minors

Chandigarh, September 2 – The Haryana government has approved a major initiative to strengthen and modernize the state’s irrigation system with an estimated cost of ₹315 crore. The decision was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, where a comprehensive remodeling plan for canal minors was given the green signal.

Under this plan, around 54 projects will be implemented across Yamuna Water Service, Loharu Water Service, and Jawaharlal Nehru Circles. The project includes rehabilitation of 30 canals and remodeling of 24 canals using modern techniques to ensure timely and adequate supply of irrigation water to farmers.

The Chief Minister said the initiative will improve irrigation facilities, reduce pressure on groundwater, boost agricultural productivity, and help control waterlogging in rural areas. He directed officials to complete all works within the set timeframe while maintaining strict quality standards in construction materials and canal levels.

Details shared in the meeting revealed that 41 projects will be executed under Yamuna Water Service Circle, Bhiwani, one in Karnal, and two in Rohtak. Similarly, seven projects will be undertaken under Loharu Water Service Circle, Bhiwani, and three under Jawaharlal Nehru Circle, Rewari. The works will be carried out with the assistance of NABARD.

The projects will cover strengthening and raising canal banks, repairing and rehabilitating linings, laying pipelines, repairing head regulators, siphons, culverts, and outlets. These measures will reduce leakages, save water, and ensure supply to potential command areas. Beneficiary districts include Bhiwani, Rohtak, Jind, Charkhi Dadri, Rewari, Sonipat, and Karnal.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Rajesh Khullar, Commissioner and Secretary of Public Health Engineering Department Mohammad Shayin, Finance Commissioner C.G. Rajinikant, and Engineer-in-Chief of Irrigation and Water Resources Department Satbir Kadian, among others.
