Chandigarh, August 23, 2025: Punjab Police intensified its anti-drug campaign on Saturday, carrying out simultaneous raids across the state and arresting 134 drug smugglers. The crackdown marked the 175th consecutive day of the state government’s “Yudh Nashian Virudh” drive launched under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.
According to officials, police teams registered 95 FIRs during the operation and recovered 2.9 kg of heroin, 9 kg of poppy husk, 963 intoxicant tablets and capsules, along with ₹12,420 in cash. This brings the total number of smugglers arrested since the campaign began to 27,039.
The operation, carried out on the directions of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, was conducted simultaneously in all 28 police districts. Over 150 teams consisting of more than 1,400 personnel and 82 gazetted officers participated in the raids, checking 490 suspicious individuals during the day-long action.
Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said the campaign combines a three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP). As part of de-addiction measures, police convinced 70 individuals to seek rehabilitation and treatment on Saturday.
The state government has also formed a five-member cabinet sub-committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, to monitor progress in the anti-drug mission. CM Mann has directed top officials, including Commissioners of Police and Deputy Commissioners, to work towards making Punjab a drug-free state.
