New Delhi, August 10 – Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will host a dinner meeting for MPs of the INDIA bloc on Monday evening, as the opposition alliance steps up its campaign against the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and what it alleges is poll manipulation by the BJP in coordination with the Election Commission.
The gathering, to be held at Hotel Taj Palace in Chanakyapuri, will coincide with a protest march by opposition MPs and leaders from Parliament to the Election Commission’s headquarters. The march is aimed at highlighting what the bloc describes as “poll fraud” and “vote theft.”
This initiative comes shortly after a recent display of unity at Rahul Gandhi’s residence, where top INDIA bloc leaders met for dinner and resolved to challenge both the Bihar electoral roll revision and the BJP’s so-called “vote chori model.” That dinner was the bloc’s first in-person meeting since June 2024, held soon after the Lok Sabha elections at Kharge’s residence.
The earlier session brought together leaders from 25 parties, including Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Akhilesh Yadav, Tejashwi Yadav, Abhishek Banerjee, Uddhav Thackeray, Tiruchi Siva, T R Baalu, M A Baby, D Raja, Dipankar Bhattacharya, and Kamal Haasan.
During that meeting, Rahul Gandhi presented what he called evidence of a “massive criminal fraud” in elections, accusing the BJP and the Election Commission of colluding to sway results.
Opposition leaders have warned that the ongoing SIR process in Bihar could disenfranchise large numbers of voters. They have pledged to fight it through a mix of parliamentary interventions and street protests.
