Haryana to Observe State-Level Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in Faridabad on August 14: CM Nayab Singh Saini

Chandigarh, July 22 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced that the state-level Partition Horrors Remembrance Day will be observed on August 14 in Faridabad to honour the countless known and unknown individuals who lost their lives during the traumatic partition of India in 1947.

Chairing a preparatory meeting, CM Saini stated that this historic event will witness participation from people across all sections of society. He emphasized that before the main event, commemorative programs will be held across various locations in the state for two weeks.

The day will be jointly organized by the Government of Haryana and the Panchanad Trust. The Chief Minister appealed to families to bring their children to the event so that the younger generation can learn about the sacrifices made by their ancestors and draw inspiration from them.

He urged the Panchanad Trust to record the memories of elderly witnesses of the partition and preserve them as historical testimony. “These accounts are essential for our youth to understand the human cost of partition, a tragedy so intense it still sends shivers down our spine,” he said.

CM Saini recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recognizing partition as one of the gravest tragedies of the 20th century, announced on August 15, 2021, that Partition Horrors Remembrance Day would be observed annually on August 14 as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Highlighting the immense human suffering caused by partition, the Chief Minister said, “India gained independence at the cost of a painful division. Millions were displaced, and countless innocent lives were lost to violence and communal strife.” He expressed deep empathy for those who bore witness to such devastation.

Despite the trauma, CM Saini acknowledged the resilience of partition survivors who, through hard work and perseverance, contributed significantly to the prosperity of the regions they settled in. He also noted that this day is a reminder of the need to uphold social unity and national integrity. “It sends a strong message of brotherhood and cautions us against the perils of societal division,” he added.

Haryana Assembly Deputy Speaker Dr. Krishan Lal Middha, BJP State President Mohan Lal Kaushik, Mahamandaleshwar Swami Dharmdev Ji Maharaj, and other dignitaries supported the initiative. Swami Dharmdev recommended that awareness about the event should be promoted in educational institutions to help students understand this chapter of history.

Also present at the meeting were MLAs Vinod Bhayana, Ghanshyam Das Arora, former Minister and Panchanad Trust Haryana President Subhash Sudha, Seema Trikha, Manish Grover, Shashipal Mehta, former Chairman Jagdish Chopra, and OSD to the CM BB Bharti.
