New Delhi, July 21 2025: Vice President of India Jagdeep Dhankhar has tendered his resignation, citing health concerns and the need to follow medical advice. The announcement came on Thursday after he submitted his resignation letter to President Droupadi Murmu.
In his formal communication, Dhankhar wrote, “To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the Constitution.”
The sudden move marks the end of Dhankhar’s tenure before the completion of his term. He had assumed office as the 14th Vice President of India in August 2022. As Vice President, he also held the position of Chairman of the Rajya Sabha.
The resignation triggers the process for the election of a new Vice President as per constitutional provisions. There has been no official announcement yet regarding a successor or interim arrangement.
