National Times Bureau, July 19, 2025: India is reeling under intense monsoon conditions, with at least 18 people losing their lives in Uttar Pradesh alone, as torrential rains continued to cause widespread flooding, landslides, and disruptions across multiple states.

In Uttar Pradesh, 18 people died in a single day as heavy rain battered several regions. Eight of these deaths occurred due to drowning, while two were caused by snake bites. Fatalities were reported from districts including Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Banda, Mahoba, Ghazipur, and Lalitpur.

Rajasthan witnessed flood-like conditions in districts such as Ajmer, Pushkar, Bundi, Sawai Madhopur, and Pali. Overflowing rivers and dams have cut off access to many areas. In Tonk’s Todaraisingh region, 17 stranded individuals were rescued from the Banas River by SDRF teams. Ajmer’s Ana Sagar Lake overflowed, and rescue efforts were seen near the Dargah area after several people were swept away.

Major rainfall figures from Rajasthan include:

230 mm in Nagaur’s Merta City

190 mm in Mangliawas (Ajmer)

Jaipur Meteorological Centre predicts that rains may pause briefly from Sunday, but another wet spell could arrive by July 27-28.

In Uttarakhand, the IMD has issued a red alert for the Kumaon region, especially for Nainital, Champawat, and Udham Singh Nagar districts. An orange alert is active in other areas. Himachal Pradesh is also on high alert, with an orange warning in place for Monday and Tuesday. More than 140 roads have been blocked, and basic services are disrupted in Mandi and Kullu districts due to continuous rains.

Kerala’s northern districts Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod are under red alert after being hit by heavy downpours. Towns and rural areas have seen major waterlogging. Orange alerts are also active in several central districts like Ernakulam and Thrissur.

In Arunachal Pradesh, landslides have disrupted road connectivity in Lower Siang district. The Aalo-Likabali route is blocked at several points, with NHIDCL teams attempting debris clearance.

Sikkim and northern West Bengal are facing a similar crisis. National Highway-10, linking Sevoke and Rangpo, has been shut due to landslides at Birik Dara. Authorities are working to restore the route soon.

Meanwhile, Delhi saw a slight dip in temperature and light showers, with the minimum settling at 25.2°C, two degrees below normal.
