India Welcomes U.S. Decision to Designate TRF as Global Terrorist Entity

New Delhi, July 19, 2025 — India on Friday welcomed the United States’ decision to designate The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), as a global terrorist organisation. The group had earlier claimed responsibility for the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) issued a strong statement in support of the designation, describing it as a timely and significant step in global counter-terrorism efforts. “We acknowledge and appreciate the leadership of Secretary of State Marco Rubio in this regard,” the ministry said.

India has repeatedly underlined the importance of dismantling terror networks and fostering international cooperation to combat the threat. “Designation of TRF is a timely and important step reflecting the deep cooperation between India and the United States on counter-terrorism,” the MEA stated.

Reiterating its firm stance, the ministry added, “India remains committed to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism and will continue to work closely with its international partners to ensure that terrorist organisations and their proxies are held accountable.”

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also welcomed the move, calling it a “strong affirmation” of the growing India-U.S. partnership in combating terrorism on the global stage.

The Resistance Front, believed to be a rebranded version of LeT aimed at bypassing international scrutiny, has been increasingly active in Kashmir in recent years, orchestrating attacks under the guise of indigenous militancy.
