Twin Earthquakes Shake Haryana’s Jhajjar, Tremors Felt Across Delhi-NCR

New Delhi, July 11, 2025: Back-to-back earthquakes jolted Haryana’s Jhajjar district this week, sending mild tremors across Delhi-NCR and raising concerns about seismic activity in the region.

On Friday evening, an earthquake of magnitude 3.7 struck Jhajjar at 7:49 pm, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). The tremor originated at a depth of 10 km beneath the earth’s surface and was felt in Delhi and surrounding areas, prompting residents to step outside buildings as a precaution.

This latest quake followed a stronger earthquake on Thursday morning, when a magnitude 4.4 temblor hit the same district at 9:04 am, also at a depth of 10 km. Thursday’s tremors were felt widely across Delhi, Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and other parts of the National Capital Region, causing temporary panic but no reported damage or casualties.

Experts note that Delhi falls under Seismic Zone IV, classified as a “High Damage Risk Zone,” according to the Delhi Disaster Management Authority. This categorization signifies the region’s vulnerability to moderate to severe earthquakes.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, stay informed about safety protocols, and avoid panic during such seismic events.
