New Delhi/Toronto (National Times): The shadow of transnational gang violence continues to darken Canada, with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility for yet another targeted killing. Indian-origin businessman MP Dhanoa was gunned down in a drive-by shooting outside his workplace in Brampton, Ontario on Friday. This marks the second murder in a month allegedly orchestrated by the Bishnoi syndicate on Canadian soil.
Authorities said Dhanoa, in his 30s, was shot multiple times at an automotive complex near Rutherford Road South and Selby Road around 5:45 PM local time. Emergency responders transported him to a trauma centre in critical condition, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
Peel Regional Police confirmed the attack was a targeted homicide. Officials cited links to an “India-based organized crime network,” with the Bishnoi gang’s Canada-based operative Goldy Brar reportedly overseeing the execution.
Gang Issues Warning via Facebook Post
A chilling Facebook post surfaced shortly after the killing, allegedly written by Rohit Godara, a close aide of Lawrence Bishnoi. Godara claimed Dhanoa had been contacted a week earlier for protection money due to his “illegal activities” and prior jail time.
“When I called him, he misbehaved with me… We told him we would definitely take him out,” the post read. The message ended with a direct warning: “This is a message to everyone on our hit list — we will get you.”
Authorities believe the Bishnoi syndicate is deliberately avoiding tagging its kingpin to create a false sense of operational disconnect. However, Indian and Canadian investigators dismiss this as a strategic misdirection to confuse law enforcement agencies.
A Pattern Emerges
This murder closely mirrors the killing of Harjeet Dhadda, a 51-year-old Brampton resident who was gunned down in May near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way in Mississauga. The Bishnoi gang had accused Dhadda of funding the Arsh Dala gang and harboring suspects involved in the killing of their associate Mahal Singh in Uttarakhand, India.
Police arrested two suspects — Aman and Digvijay — earlier this month in connection with Dhadda’s murder. Authorities now suspect Goldy Brar’s direct involvement in both Dhadda and Dhanoa’s killings, pointing to a ruthlessly expanding gang footprint in Canada.
Dhadda’s family had previously shared social media posts revealing that he had received gang threats for years, which were reportedly brought to the attention of local authorities but allegedly not acted upon.
Separate Workplace Shooting in Brampton; Suspect Vehicle Torched
In a related but distinct case, Sharnpreet Singh, an Ontario man, was fatally shot at his workplace near Rutherford and Glidden Roads in Brampton on the same day. Police believe it may be gang-related and are probing links to the Bishnoi network.
Hours later, a dark-coloured sedan believed to be used in the shooting was found set ablaze near Campbellville, just outside of Milton. The suspects reportedly fled the area on foot.
Peel Regional Police have appealed to the public for any dashcam footage or surveillance video from the area on the night of the incident. “We are looking into multiple suspects and are urging residents to report anything suspicious,” the statement said.
The back-to-back killings have sparked alarm among diaspora communities, with officials now under pressure to enhance coordination between Canadian and Indian law enforcement to dismantle the cross-border criminal network.
