Punjab Sets New Record in Power Demand, Supplies 16,711 MW Without Outages

Chandigarh, June 11, 2025: In a major achievement, Punjab recorded its highest-ever electricity demand of 16,711 megawatts (MW) on June 11 and managed to meet the full requirement without resorting to any power cuts. The announcement was made by Power Minister S. Harbhajan Singh ETO, who credited the seamless supply to efficient planning and coordination by the state power utilities.

The new milestone surpasses the previous record of 16,192 MW set just a day earlier, on June 10, 2025. That figure had itself broken the last year’s high of 16,058 MW recorded on June 29, 2024.

Highlighting the government’s readiness, the Power Minister stated that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s leadership, Punjab had made advance arrangements to secure 17,000 MW of power supply for the ongoing summer season and the paddy sowing period. As a result, the state was able to meet back-to-back record peak demands without any supply disruption.

Harbhajan Singh ETO praised the officers and staff of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) and Punjab State Transmission Corporation Limited (PSTCL) for their tireless efforts and dedication. “Their performance is commendable. They ensured round-the-clock availability of electricity despite the surging demand,” he said.

He reiterated that the Mann-led government is committed to strengthening Punjab’s energy infrastructure and ensuring that citizens and farmers face no inconvenience during the critical summer months. Officials said that demand is expected to rise further in the coming days as temperatures climb and agricultural activity peaks.
