New Delhi, May 16, 2025 — Amid growing public and political backlash against countries seen as supporting Pakistan during the recent conflict, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta declared that India will not tolerate foreign support for terrorism and that people will boycott any nation that acts against Indian interests.
“If any country gets involved in any way against India, the people of India will boycott it in every way,” Gupta said, reinforcing the nation’s unified stance. “India is united against the supporters of terrorism,” she added.
The statement follows rising calls across India to boycott Turkey and Azerbaijan, both accused of backing Pakistan during its standoff with India in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, launched by the Indian Army in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal echoed the sentiment, revealing that trade leaders from 24 states have assembled in Delhi to decide on ending business ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan. “Traders stand firmly with Prime Minister Modi. Any country that goes against India will face economic consequences,” Khandelwal asserted.
The movement has gained momentum across states:
1. In Himachal Pradesh, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur supported local apple growers’ demand for a ban on apple imports from Turkey, comparing the country’s actions to those of Pakistan.
2. Apple growers have further called for a complete ban or steep import duties (over 100%) on apples from Turkey, Iran, Iraq, and China.
3. Fruit merchants in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, have also protested against Turkish apple imports.
The academic world has responded too. Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) has cancelled its MoU with Turkiye’s Yunus Emre Institute, while Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has suspended its MoU with Inonu University of Turkiye, citing national security concerns.
JNU Vice-Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit stated that no ties would be maintained with a country that “supports terror and stabs India in the back.”
India’s stance following the conflict reflects a broader societal and institutional consensus to stand firm against nations perceived to be hostile or supportive of cross-border terrorism.
