New Delhi, May 16, 2025: In a major diplomatic fallout, India has revoked the security clearance of Turkish firm Celebi Airport Services, effectively halting its ground-handling operations at nine key Indian airports. The decision follows Turkey’s alleged military support to Pakistan during India’s recent Operation Sindoor.
The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) announced the cancellation, citing national security concerns. Celebi operated at major hubs including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. The move triggered a sharp reaction on the Istanbul Stock Exchange, with Celebi’s shares plummeting by 10 percent.
According to reports, Turkey allegedly provided drones and operatives to Pakistan, some of which were reportedly used in drone strikes on India on May 8. This sparked outrage in New Delhi, intensifying already tense diplomatic relations between the two nations.
Celebi has filed a legal challenge, calling the government’s order vague and warning that nearly 3,800 jobs in India are at risk. The company is seeking judicial relief to continue its operations.
Back home, protests erupted outside the Turkish Embassy in New Delhi. Shiv Sena workers rallied against Ankara’s alleged role in aiding Pakistan, demanding the removal of Turkish firms from Indian soil.
India and Turkey have shared a strained relationship in recent years, especially due to Ankara’s repeated support for Pakistan over the Kashmir issue. The latest fallout marks a new low, reflecting the growing influence of geopolitical allegiances on trade and civil aviation partnerships.
